At the end of its life, the cup is fully recyclable.<\/p>\n<h3>What\u2019s wrong with biodegradable or compostable cups?<\/h3>\n<p>Compostable cups, although they are plastic free,\u00a0 they are still single use: they still get used for an average of 15 minutes before they are thrown away. People think they will just rot down \u2013 but in fact they need to be sent to a specialised in-vessel composting facility. The reality is that cups thrown away in the town bins all end up in the incinerator just like everything else. That\u2019s why the only no-waste solution is to avoid a single use cup and go for REUSABLE<\/p>\n<h3>Will it keep my coffee hot?<\/h3>\n<p>The cup is insulated so your hands are safe- but it is not a thermos cup. However, it keeps your drink hot in the same way that a single use paper cup does.<\/p>\n<h3>Where does the cup come from?<\/h3>\n<p>It is manufactured in the UK and is British designed.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens when it breaks?<\/h3>\n<p>The cup is robust and designed to last for hundreds of uses but, if it breaks it just goes in your plastics recycling at home or you can drop it off at a cafe to be recycled. Deposits are not returned if the cup is broken.<\/p>\n<h3>How does the deposit system work?<\/h3>\n<p>You pay \u00a31 deposit when you choose a Shrewsbury Cup for your take out drink and you can get your \u00a31 back when you return your cup to any participating cafe.<\/p>\n<p>As long as the cup isn\u2019t damaged you will be able to get your \u00a31 back by returning the cup to any participating cafes. Compostable lids can go in your green bin at home and plastic lids can go in your plastic\/cans and glass recycling.<\/p>\n<h3>Which cup system is the most environmentally friendly?<\/h3>\n<p>When you compare the carbon footprint of the Shrewsbury Cup with that of single-use paper cups \u2013 the results speak for themselves. If you choose a reusable cup 7 times instead of 7 paper cups \u2013 you will use 41% less carbon. If you use a reusable cup every day for 6 months instead of 182 single-use cups \u2013 then you save 95% of the carbon.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens at the end of the life of these cups? Creating new plastic products cannot be better than using something biodegradable.<\/h3>\n<p>Plastic lasts forever \u2013 this product is using plastic in the right way, it is designed to be used hundreds and hundreds of times. The cup is made from polypropylene and if it&#8217;s damaged, it is fully recyclable.<\/p>\n<p>At present the number of single-use paper cups used in Shrewsbury is approximately 150,000 per year, these all go into the incinerator.<\/p>\n<p>There is no route for customers to recycle their paper cup in Shrewsbury.
